Who we are and who we help
JB Carpentry and Building Ltd is a South Devon building contractor based at 156 Newton Road, Torquay, and led by director Jake Brown. Jake brings 18 years of hands-on trade experience and is City & Guilds qualified in bricklaying and carpentry. The company has been trading for over 11 years.
We help homeowners who already have architect drawings and planning in place, and need a contractor to build them properly. Most of our clients want more space, a better layout or a structurally sound building, without managing a dozen trades themselves.
We specialise in groundworks and heavy structural work: house extensions, barn and basement conversions, underpinning and structural alterations. We're also approved rubber roofing installers.
We work across Torquay, Paignton, Totnes, Dartmouth, Kingsbridge, Salcombe, the South Hams and Teignbridge.
How the team is structured
A core in-house team of six tradesmen handles groundworks, brickwork, blockwork, structural timber and carpentry, and heavy structural underpinning. On larger projects that grows to as many as 15 with long-term dedicated subcontractors.
Plumbing, electrical, plastering and specialist finishing trades are delivered by vetted subcontractors who work through the company, giving you one point of contact.
Our primary focus is the structure and watertight shell. We can also price kitchens, bathrooms, doors and decorating, with an interior designer and carpet fitters available through the company. If you prefer your own fit-out contractors, we're happy to hand over at the shell stage.
